Our Story

Our History

Watering Can Media began in the summer 2001. Nick Turner and Ben Harvey met while working for a media company which specialised in the not-for-profit sector. We spent five years developing films, websites and design/PR campaigns for scores of not-for-profit organisations before we set off on our own.

Initially, Watering Can Media grew in our living rooms, home offices and kitchen tables. Soon there was a need for larger premises and we moved to central London where our client list extended into the small/medium businesses, large international corporates, independent music labels and other sectors. That is where we are today and still growing.

Our Purpose

We often review why we are in business and for us it has never been about the bottom line. Of course, like all companies, we need to make a profit to pay our bills, staff, mortgages and coffee bills – but our main motivation is to continue to find ways to do the work we love while helping others. We want at least half of our work (time not fees!) to be with not-for-profit organisations because we think a mix of corporate and not-for-profit clients works well – for us, for them and for all of our creativity.

Therefore, we offer reduced day-rates to not-for-profit clients. But we also run a number of in-house charitable and social enterprise projects and try to promote any projects that our staff care about. A few of these projects are listed in ‘We Support‘.
